Decades of research point to the fact that access to books improves children’s ability to read and desire to read. Yet too many children live in “book deserts.” In their book, Game Changer! Book Access for All Kids, literacy authorities and advocates Donalyn Miller and Colby Sharp show how creating “book floods” is a game changer for kids. During this Professional Book Hook, one of our expert facilitators will lead participants through an exploration of what the research says about book access. Further, through Donalyn and Colby’s classroom experiences and those of experts in the field, participants will find tools and techniques in Game Changer to dramatically increase children’s access to – and life-changing engagement with – books. Participants will create a plan to develop, organize, and manage their classroom libraries, and they will learn about the power of choice for readers. Participants will come away inspired and prepared to be Game Changers, helping improve book access for students.
